Jean-Antoine Watteau

This exhibition presents a remarkable promised gift of European works on paper. Along with figurative sketches, independent studies, and portraits are two vivid landscape scenes. Artists include Boucher, Caillebotte, Degas, Fragonard, Goya, Sargent, and Vigée Le Brun.

From November 5, 2014, through February 1, 2015, the Frick presented ten masterpieces of painting from the Scottish National Gallery. The museum, one of the finest in the world, is distinguished for its holdings of works by the greatest masters of Western art and for its comprehensive collection of Scottish art.

This comprehensive survey of drawings by Jean-Antoine Watteau (1684–1721) and some of his leading contemporaries included more than sixty-five drawings lent from public and private collections in North America.
