Xavier F. Salomon, Chief Curator at The Frick Collection, provides an introduction to the exhibition Luigi Valadier: Splendor in Eighteenth Century Rome on view at The Frick Collection from October 31, 2018 through January 20, 2019. 

In conjunction with the special exhibition Luigi Valadier: Splendor in Eighteenth-Century Rome, internationally renowned Valadier expert Alvar González-Palacios discusses Valadier’s remarkable life and work, as well as his own experience as curator of the exhibition and author of the first complete monograph of the artist’s extraordinary oeuvre.

Best known for his evocative abstract paintings, imagined landscapes, and immersive installations, artist Darren Waterston discusses the impact masterpieces from the Frick have had on his work. In conversation with Xavier F. Salomon, Peter Jay Sharp Chief Curator.

To celebrate the 400th anniversary of the birth of Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, The Frick Collection has reunited for the first time the only two known self-portraits by the artist. This lecture provides an introduction to the special exhibition, focusing on these two rare paintings and their context.

Between 1566 and 1567, the priest Francesco degli Arbori oversaw the construction of a small private chapel on the island of Murano, in the Venetian Lagoon. To decorate it, he commissioned Paolo Veronese, one of the most sought-after artists in Venice. The two principal works from the building, recently restored, are the focus of the special exhibition and this lecture.
