Romantics, Neoclassicists, Realists: European Drawings from the Stanford University Museum of Art

The Stanford Museum collection of drawings was one of the largest such university collections in the country, distinguished particularly for its holdings in works from the late eighteenth and nineteenth centuries. The sixty drawings from this period chosen for display at The Frick Collection represented an unusual range of artists — French, English, Irish, Swiss, Dutch, German, Austrian, Italian — from the famous to the obscure. The drawings and watercolors range in date from about 1765 to 1880, and their variety reveals the diversity of tastes and interests in Europe during those decades of intellectual and political change. Among the artists included were Fragonard, Fuseli, Tiepolo, Delacroix, Constable, and Turner.
